Joep Stapel is schrijver, dichter, de helft van een vertalersduo, amateurvoetballer en muzikant. Hij schrijft over klassieke muziek voor NRC. Met Jur Koksma vertaalt hij poëzie, bijvoorbeeld van Delmore Schwartz, John Ashbery en Eugenio Montale. Bij Meulenhoff verscheen in april 2019 zijn debuutroman Kaf en in september 2022 zijn tweede roman, De onzichtbare. Zijn eerste dichtbundel, Dit komt ergens anders vandaan, verschijnt in september 2025, een derde roman staat gepland voor 2026.

Joep Stapel is a Dutch writer and music journalist. He is a classical and new music critic for national newspaper NRC. He has published two novels (Kaf, 2019, and De onzichtbare, 2022), a book of poetry (Dit komt ergens anders vandaan, 2025), stories, and essays. He is also active as a translator of poetry from Italian and English, in collaboration with Jur Koksma; they published an anthology of Brooklyn poet Delmore Schwartz (2020), John Ashbery’s De schaatsers / ‘The Skaters’ (2023), and Zeekatskeletten (2025), the first Dutch translation of the classic collection Ossi di seppia by Nobel laureate Eugenio Montale. Joep’s third novel (2026) is forthcoming.
